Annia Aurelia Galeria Lucilla, AD 148/150-182
Annia Aurelia Galeria Lucilla was the third child of emperor Marcus Aurelius (AD 161-180) and his wife, empress Faustina the Younger. Her younger brother was the future emperor Commodus (AD 180-192). In AD 164 she married her father’s co-ruler Lucius Versus and assumed the title of Augusta, thus becoming a Roman empress. After her spouse’s death, her father forced her to marry Tiberius Claudius Pompeianus Quintianus. Soon after that she conspired against her younger brother, the new emperor Commodus. The plot was discovered and Lucilla was banished to Capri. Soon after, the emperor oredered her execution.
Denarius of Lucilla struck in Rome between AD 164 and 182.
Obverse: The bust of Lucilla, draped, to the right. The inscription reads: LVCILLAE AVG (ustae) ANTONINI AVG (usti) F (iliae) ((Money) of Lucilla Augusta, the daughter of Antoninus Augustus (Marcus Aurelius)).
Reverse: The personification of concord, the goddess Concordia, sitting to the left, holding a shallow vessel (patera), resting her elbow on a statue of goddess Spes, a personification of hope. Below the chair is a cornucopia. The inscription reads: CONCORDIA (Concord). The personifications of various virtues are often represented on Roman Imperial coins, with two of them on the reverse of this particular denarius: Concord and Hope. Replica made of zamak (zinc-aluminium-magnesium-copper alloy) with trademark sign.
